In 2006 MSN challenged all developers of automated dialogue worldwide to drag out all their creativity in the Windows Live Robot competition, a competition to develop the most innovative robot for Windows Live Messenger. I was asked to be the Dutch judge of the competition. Unfortunately, the competition was cancelled due to a lack of interest.
An important spinoff for me was the creation of www.chatbots.org, a website which aims to describe all the chatbots in the world. I think that eventually all chatbots form the ultimate example of how brands will shape their dialogues with consumers, civilians or members, so I expect that such competitions will follow again in the future.
